Who I Am

Sharna Bradley

About Myself:

My name is Sharna Bradley, and I have been a professional career nanny for over 14 years, specialising in newborns, twins and multiples, alongside caring for children of all ages. Based in the UK, in London, I have been fortunate enough to have lived and worked around the world in countries such as Monaco, Florence, and Abu Dhabi. Working for predominately UHNW families, I have also supported several working professional parents in assisting in caring for their children from all backgrounds and walks of life.

I pride myself on bringing love, laughter, affection and warmth to new homes, creating a harmonious, balanced and emotionally supportive space for infants and children to thrive and find their voice, and helping first-time parents find their feet and confidence in parenthood.

Being well versed in working in fully staffed private households, I've done sole and shared care roles throughout my career and have travelled extensively on private and commercial flights, so I'm confident in organising and adjusting to being away for long and short periods of time. I pride myself on my level of discretion and confidentiality, along with adapting to new time zones and locations effortlessly.

Realising that being a caregiver was my vocation, I furthered my knowledge and studies. I have plans to gain a psychology degree in the near future alongside building a thriving business.

Outside of my career, I travel extensively and love soaking up and experiencing new cultures and ways of life. Staying fit and healthy is a huge part of my lifestyle, like spending time with my large family.

I have assisted and helped raise infants as young as 4 days old, staying with some of my longer-term families right up until they were ready to transition their children into a nursery or school setting. I am well versed in all developmental stages and milestones and confidently welcome the more testing aspects, behavioural and otherwise.

Childcare Ethos

In childcare, one adage consistently resonates with me: "Comparison is the thief of joy." This phrase encapsulates my philosophy on raising children and underscores my firm belief that every child is a unique individual deserving of individualised care and attention. Honouring their distinctiveness and nurturing their individuality is imperative to foster their growth.

Children, in their essence, are remarkable individuals with their personalities and potential. It's a disservice to them when we unknowingly impose our expectations on them, pushing them to conform to our ideals. Instead, we should celebrate and encourage them to embrace who they are, guiding them to achieve their best selves. My approach to every family is centred on this principle.

My mission is clear: collaborating with families and supporting nurturing, well-rounded, confident, and content children. I believe in guiding children to embrace their uniqueness and allowing them the freedom to navigate the world. As adults, we often project our fears onto our children, seeking to shield them from the world's potential harm. However, this protective instinct can inadvertently instil fear within them, hindering their ability to navigate challenges independently.

Children are born with inherent fearlessness and a natural inclination to explore and test their boundaries. Cultivating and encouraging this fearlessness is crucial, allowing them to learn through experience and develop problem-solving skills. Embrace the nerve-wracking moments that come with this journey, for they are integral to a child's growth.

Reading is a cornerstone of my approach, an activity I believe should be integral to every child's life, irrespective of age. Through extensive experience, I've witnessed firsthand how reading stimulates their minds and dramatically enriches their vocabulary.

Whether you gravitate towards a free-spirited, gentle parenting approach or lean towards a more structured method, one common truth stands out: nearly all children benefit from having some level of structure and routine in their lives, even if it's as simple as having dinner at a consistent time and place daily. One of my primary focuses is on creating emotional safety and fostering trust. A fundamental way to achieve this is through providing stability and maintaining continuity in their lives. Children greatly benefit from having a predictable environment and a sense of reliability and familiarity. Their comfort from repeating daily tasks or routines should be considered. I've found that employing simple, effective methods contributes to a smoother, more harmonious household.

I frequently advise parents that the values and behaviours demonstrated within the home are what children will mirror and carry into the world outside—a nature versus nurture dynamic. Equipping your children with the proper tools, encouragement, and trust to navigate new experiences and relationships is crucial. This involves teaching them about boundaries, understanding relationship dynamics, and building emotional awareness. Neglecting this aspect of parenting inadvertently hinders their ability to navigate the world competently. It's our responsibility to ensure they possess the knowledge and resources necessary to thrive independently, even though this transition may seem daunting.
